Undeniably Mexico represents one of the most diverse tourist destinations and with an almost inexhaustible capacity to satisfy the needs and exceed the expectations of anyone, however; given the unfortunate events that have taken place in some remote regions have posed a general question at the national level on the subject of security when talking about this beautiful country.
Unfortunately, the international news have not been able to properly segment the tragic events, given that instead of communicating the news making the public aware of the dimension of the regions in Mexico, the name of the country as such is put first and consequently the image of various destinations that do not necessarily have to do, such as the case of Mexico City, ends up being muddied; If we locals are not afraid to walk in the main tourist areas, tourists do not have to be; and proof of this are the thousands of international visitors who end up surprised with "the Mexico City they saw" versus "the one they were told by their local media they were going to see"

According to the results of the National Survey of Public and Urban Security (ENSU) of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the perception of insecurity in Mexico City decreased by 21.2% in the first quarter of this year, and is 3 points below the national percentage. This decrease in the perception of insecurity is related to the security strategy implemented by the capital's government, which is composed of 5 axes: Attention to the causes, More and Better Police, Intelligence and Investigation, Coordination and improvements in the implementation of the Legal Framework.
Summing up, through this efficient local multidisciplinary strategy, better training and technology have been implemented for public security agents and 1,855 new units have been integrated in the main tourist areas; additionally, 11,100 new security cameras have been installed throughout Mexico City to provide security and assistance in real time to pedestrians in the streets.
On the other hand, social programs have been implemented to promote business development, culture and sports; this has also allowed people who normally found their way out of crime to find other paths, which consequently is also contributing to lower crime rates in several areas.
Not intention to bury our heads in the sand
It is well known that in all large metropolises crime is present in greater or lesser dimension, however, speaking specifically of the Metropolitan Zone to the center of the country; low impact crimes were reduced 61. 1 percent from January to June 2022 compared to the same period in 2019; nevertheless as every person used to walking in cities knows, it is never too much to take basic standard precautions, such as taking advice from certified service providers, constantly paying attention to the surroundings, always having personal belongings in sight and secured and always asking for reference from the locals regarding the areas that are preferable to avoid.
Related to this, all four zones of Mexico City, North, East, West and South registered a reduction in their perception of insecurity during the second quarter of 2022.
Unfortunately, it is a sad reality that in previous months there has been criminal activity in certain states of the Mexican Republic, however; it is important not to lose sight of the fact that such events have been located almost 500 miles away from Mexico City in another of the 32 states that make up the territory known as "Mexico"; and where unfortunately they are far from the reach of the capital's security plan that has promoted public safety strategies that guarantee a rewarding experience for anyone who wants to discover the city.
