Mexican currency is the Peso. Most touristic places will accept US dollars and travelers checks. You will not be able to cash a personal check anywhere in Mexico and there are several establishments that only take cash, so it is a good idea to get Mexican Pesos at any of the several currency exchange houses at the exit of customs at any major airport in the country, any bank, ATM machines conveniently located throughout Mexico or even your hotel, although this last one usually gives you a worse exchange rate.
